Look Up

Look up from your phones, people.

We say this as people who make their music on computers and release it through apps and communicate through screens and are fully aware of the irony. We are not exempt. We are not standing on the shore watching you drown. We are in the water with you, just old enough to remember when the water was not there.

Glitch is about the malfunction in the connection. Not the connection between devices, that part works fine, tragically fine, relentlessly fine at all hours, but the connection between the person holding the device and the world that exists about twelve inches above the screen. The one with the sky in it. The one where the person across from you is doing something with their face that is not a notification.

The Aether has been trying to get a word in edgewise for a while now. It whispers but the pings are louder. It sends signals but the algorithm surfaces something more immediately gratifying and the signal gets buried under content. The cosmic and the chronic are competing for the same attention and the chronic is winning on volume alone.

This is not a screed. This is not a lecture. We do not have clean hands here and we know it. It is just a song that asks a simple question dressed up as an observation.

What are you missing while you are looking at this?

Look up. Even for a minute. The Aether has something to show you.
